On December 10, a seminar on the EMI project (“English as a Medium Instruction“) was held. The seminar was attended by lecturers of departments on the Specialty of all faculties and teachers of the English Language of the university. The seminar was conducted by the project coordinator, associate professor of the English language department G.N. Irmukhamedova, Senior teacher of the Department of International Finance and Investments A. Abdullaev and Kh.A. Akhmadjonov, lecturer of the English department.

In May 2019, the British Council, in partnership with the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education, launched a new long-term Higher Education for Employment program. One of the key areas of the program is Teaching Subjects in English (EMI). Project coordinators - British Council and Norwich Institute for Language Education (UK).

16 universities of Uzbekistan participate in the project. Each team is represented by subject area teachers , teaching in English and teachers of English. There are 5 teachers in the UWED-team. The main objectives of the project are: to assist in the development and implementation of a national EMI capacity building program for the higher education sector in Uzbekistan; create a team of professionals who can design and implement programs in their higher education institutions in English, as well as offering training and support to all EMI teachers in Uzbekistan.

G.N. Irmukhamedova in her presentation underlined the importance of the project for teachers and noted the main recommendations for colleagues teaching their subjects in English.

A. Abdullaev, a project participant, from his experience of conducting classes on "International Marketing" in English, spoke about the main problems, about new strategies in conducting lectures and seminars in English, shared with what he learnt during online courses and trainings on EMI.

Kh.A. Akhmadjonov, a project participant, spoke about the assessment system, the importance of creating rubrics for assessing students' knowledge. Kh.A. Akhmadjonov shared with  the results of his research focusing on the efficiency of using rubrics in assessment.
