On 12 December 2019 the English Chair of the UWED hosted its Annual Republican Students’ Conference. The tradition of conducting such conferences had been founded by the former UWED Training Center for Conference Interpreters(TCCI) more than 11 years ago. This time the conference had a very attractive title -  “Poetry Knows no Limit”.

In her introductory speech Deputy of UWED rector G.S.Ismailova welcomed the students, guests and organizers of the conference. She has underlined the important role of poetry in human society. She emphasized the positive role of interaction among the students of different universities at the events of this sort.

In her speech the Head of the English Chair of UWED E.V.Borisova has pointed out the value of poetry for the human kind in general and young people in particular. She expressed her confidence that the participants of the conference would pick up the ideas voiced at this conference to share them further in their lives.

Twenty seven reports delivered by representatives of several universities of Tashkent touched upon the classical works of Shakespeare and Byron, Pushkin and Akhmatova, Chulpon and  Muhammad Ysuf and many, many other well- known poets having the world fame. At the same time the participants of the conference analyzed not only classical and modern poetry: the analysis had involved the poems written by the students of UWED too. Definitely, this was a real feast of poetry on that day!

The main goal of this conference was to convey a vital message on the significance of poetry in our modern life. “Popularity of poetry indicates the level of education and culture of the society” emphasized professor of UWED B.Samadov in his speech.

Wonderful recitations of  poems in English, Uzbek and Russian languages electrified the audience and elicited rounds and rounds of applause and left no one untouched. One of the components of the conference worthwhile mentioning was the idea of demonstration of ineluctable  unity of music and poetry. Thus, the participants of the event had a chance to listen to the songs of Okudzhava, Bob Dylan, Taylor Swift and others performed by the UWED students with accompaniment of their acoustic guitar. As usual the conference was speaking English. A guest visitor of the conference from USA, the Fulbright ETA Madison Krstich highlighted the fact that poetry helps to embrace global values. At the end of her speech mentioning wisdom and cultural potential of poetry she recited the poem of Abdulla Oripov in Uzbek.

According to the tradition of TCCI the reports’ delivery had been accompanied by simultaneous interpretation. It is gratifying to note that this type of interpretation had been excellently provided by the graduates of TCCI who are professionally practicing it in this country and abroad adding fame to their alma mater.
