On 7th of May, 2019, the lecture on the topic of “Modern trends in legal services& how to build a law firm for the Future” was delivered by R.Sobirov (Managing Partner, Sobirovs Law Firm, Toronto, Canada). The lecture was oriented to the modern challenges and factors faced by new coming lawyers by taking into account the influence of Information Technologies in shaping the modern image of law firms throughout the World in the example of Canada.

The Guest-Lecturer enumerated the possible outcomes of transition into Law firm 3.0 in the following examples:

  • Cloud computing;
  • Artificial Intelligence;
  • Software-as-a-service.

The examples of current legal tech applications operating in Europe, Canada and other countries were given by the lecturer such as Flightright, AirHelp, Alexsei and others.

Considering the benefits of modern legal technologies, it establish formation of repetitive legal work such as online scheduling- Calendly.com; Client communications- Messengers; Electronic signing - HelloSign and others.

At the end of the lecture, recommendations for the lawyers of the future were given:

  • Buyer’s market: business is going digital;
  • Delivery of legal services: inter-disciplinary, collaborative process involving legal, business, and technological expertise;
  • Combine legal expertise with technology and business process;
  • Law School: cannot remain static; must adapt to the technology trend.

The Guest-Lecture promised to continue the cooperation with the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in the forms of webinars or lectures in the future.
