Meeting with the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan

On September 5, 2018, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted a meeting with the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, John McGregor.

During the meeting, the high-ranking guest was acquainted with the progress of socio-economic, political and legal reforms in Uzbekistan on the basis of the Strategy of Actions for the five priority development directions of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021. The representative of the OSCE also received detailed information on the large-scale transformations being carried out at the University in the framework of the implementation of the Resolution of the President of Uzbekistan Sh. M. Mirziyoyev “On Measures for Cardinal Improvement of the Activity of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy”. J. McGregor highly appreciated the ongoing positive changes in all spheres of life in Uzbekistan, noting the OSCE’s readiness to contribute to the implementation of the reforms outlined in the Strategy for Action for 2017-2021.

During the talks, the parties discussed the prospects for cooperation between the UWED and the office of the OSCE Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan. J. McGregor expressed great interest in establishing close cooperation with the University in order to develop joint scientific and educational projects, as well as holding “round tables” and a conference on contemporary issues of the OSCE development.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), which brings together 57 States parties from North America, Europe and Asia, is the world's largest regional security organization.

Uzbekistan has been a member of the OSCE since February 26, 1992. In June 2006 On the initiative of the Uzbek side, the Permanent Council of the Organization decided to establish the Office of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan. The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan implements projects that include assistance in improving legislation; training courses; seminars, conferences and study tours; as well as providing advice on improving the work of state bodies, departments and civil society organizations.
