Meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan

On May 2, 2018, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted a lecture by the U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan Pamela L. Spratlen on the role of journalism and the media in the social and political life of the United States. Ambassador Spratlen's speech was timed to coincide with the World Press Freedom Day declared by the General Assembly of the United Nations, which is May 3.

The Ambassador was welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and the rector of the UWED Abdujabar Abduvakhitov. During his opening remarks Abdujabar Abduvakhitov stressed that the lecture of Ambassador Spratlen is highly to the purpose, since for the new academic year on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the University plans to introduce a new specialty "International Journalism".

After the introductory speech of the UWED rector, Ambassador Spratlen conducted a lecture for students and university professors and answered their questions.

Representatives of UWED thanked the distinguished guest for such an interesting and informative presentation, and the parties exchanged memorable gifts.
