UWED hosted events dedicated to the 26th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the commemorative meeting in the memory of the First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov

The first-year students of the 2017-2018 academic year were welcomed at the Assembly Hall of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy on September 2. The academic staff, employees, first-year students of Bachelor’s and Master’s Courses as well as parents of the students participated at the meeting.
The opening speech was made by the Rector A.Djumanov who congratulated all those present on the 26th anniversary of Independence. The Rector informed students about the tasks set for university graduates in the development of international relations of the country as well as on fundamental improvement of the education sector in Uzbekistan. The international standards should be met according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev “On measures for the further development of the higher education system” from April 20, 2017. It was also mentioned that the university was founded on the initiative of the First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov in 1992 and this year it celebrates the 25th anniversary.
The floor was then given to Professor Alisher Faizullaev. The scientist told about the professional activity of the future university graduate, shared his experience as an Ambassador, and wished students success in their studies.
Professor Rahmon Farmonov emphasized students’ attention to that fact that Independence Day is a great historical date when our country gained its independence and appeared on the world map as a new, independent and sovereign state - the Republic of Uzbekistan. It became the embodiment of the centuries-old dream and aspirations of our people.
The head of the Department of “Social science and humanities” Rano Tursunova spoke about the life and work of Islam Karimov who is the founder of Uzbekistan's Independence. A documentary about the First President was demonstrated as well.
Associate Professor F. Usarova told the audience about the main provisions of the Strategy of Action for the five priority development directions of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021 and the State Program "Year of Dialogue with the People and Human Interest".
The orientation period for the first-year students is supposed to be held till September 10.
