On April 12, 2023, the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis S. Safoev met with the Head of the OSCE ODIHR Referendum Observation Mission in Uzbekistan, Ambassador Albert Jonsson.

During the meeting, the foreign side was informed about the essence and significance of the Constitutional reform, as well as the political and socio-economic transformations taking place in Uzbekistan. In particular, it was noted that the draft Constitution in the new edition was prepared taking into account the opinions and recommendations of leading international organizations, including the OSCE ODIHR and the Venice Commission.

It was emphasized that in the course of the nationwide discussion of the draft Constitutional Law, over 220,000 proposals were received, every fourth of which was reflected in the draft.

Within the framework of the dialogue, an exchange of views took place on the state and prospects of interaction, expanding contacts with the OSCE/ODIHR in the field of improving the law-making process and further modernizing the national electoral system.

In turn, the foreign side expressed support for the ongoing democratic reforms in the country, noted its readiness to promote in every possible way the further development of cooperation in order to promote the reforms carried out by the President of Uzbekistan Sh.M. Mirziyoyev.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain a systematic dialogue and partnerships.
