On March 17, this year, the third meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic was held in Tashkent.

The parties discussed the state and prospects for the development of Uzbek-Kyrgyz relations, incl. further priority areas of inter-parliamentary cooperation, as well as issues of using the possibilities of parliamentary diplomacy to promote trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

Co-chairman of the Uzbek part of the Commission, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy S. Safoev noted that thanks to the political will of the heads of state, important decisions have been made in recent years to strengthen and expand relations between the two countries based on the principles of mutual trust and good neighborliness.

The historical significance of the results of the state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Kyrgyz Republic on January 26-27 this year, within the framework of which important bilateral agreements were signed to resolve issues of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border, was emphasized.

The parties expressed their firm conviction that the completion of the process of delimitation of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border will contribute to strengthening stability, security and joint prosperity of the two countries.

The co-chairs reaffirmed the importance of continuing interaction between the foreign ministries and holding regular consultations on topical issues of bilateral relations, international and regional problems of mutual interest.

The parties noted the positive dynamics of inter-parliamentary cooperation within the framework of this Commission, as well as mutual visits of parliamentary delegations and friendship groups of the parliaments of the two countries.

The need to develop permanent ties between the parliaments of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic was emphasized in order to study the practice of developing and adopting legislative acts, as well as improving the experience of legislative activity, exercising control and representative functions of parliaments.

The parties noted the priority importance of trade and economic cooperation between the states and confirmed their readiness to make joint efforts to progressively increase the volume and expand the range of mutual trade, develop industrial cooperation, and support entrepreneurs of both countries.

In this context, the Parties stressed the important role of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation for the timely implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level.

Also at the meeting of the Commission, they dwelled in detail on the prospects for interregional cooperation in the light of a unique format - the Council of Heads of the Border Regions of the two countries.

The parties noted the importance of establishing cooperation between local government bodies of the border regions, holding joint events aimed at strengthening the ties of friendship and good neighborliness, as well as developing people's diplomacy.
