A roundtable discussion on “Multilateral and Rules-Based International System as a Guarantor of Security and Economic Development of Uzbekistan and Latvia” featuring professors and experts, representatives of international organizations, dip. corps and governmental organizations was held at the University of World Econ

A roundtable discussion held at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy on November 23, 2022 examined multilateral and rules-based international system as a guarantor of security and economic development of Uzbekistan and Latvia and gathered professors and other experts, representatives of international organizations, dip corps and governmental organizations in search of new data. Media representatives took part in the event too.

In his opening remarks at the beginning of the event the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Sodyq Safoev emphasized on the level of strategic partnership with Latvia and Uzbekistan and noted that the roundtable discussion will contribute to the exchange of ideas between the two parties. S. Safoev also noted that the topic of the roundtable is one of the most important issues of contemporary world. Then the floor was passed to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Uzbekistan Reinis Trokša. H.E. Mr. Trokša supported the views expressed by S. Safoev and briefly talked about the prospects for expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and Latvia in various fields and thanked the University of World Economy and Diplomacy for hosting the event. The Ambassador also mentioned that it has been 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Latvia. The relations were established on November 3, 1992.

During the main part, presentations were delivered by Kārlis Bukovskis, Acting Director, Latvian Institute of International Affairs on “Rules of law and multilateralism in modern international affairs”, Laylo Tashpulatova, Head of the World Economy Department, UWED on “30 years of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Latvia”, Inese Voika, Lecturer, Riga Graduate School of Law, Member of the Parliament of Latvia on “Democracy and dialogue”, Akram Umarov, Deputy Director of the Institute for Advanced International Studies, UWED on “Cooperation between Uzbekistan and EU”. The speakers talked about the multilateral and rules-based international system, security and economic development of Uzbekistan and Latvia.

Afterwards, during the discussions and Q&A session, the experts and participants got to exchange ideas and ask each other questions. Matilda Dimovska, UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan and Charlotte Adriaen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan took part in the session.

At the end of the roundtable discussion, the conclusions were drawn and the participants expressed hope for further cooperation and exchange of views.
