One realizes the importance of transferring knowledge and life experience between generations, especially in diplomatic service. The open discussion between the students of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan held on September 27, 2022 served that exact purpose. The constructive meeting created an ideal platform for communication between the university students who are interested in diplomatic service and Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Turkey, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Saudi Arabia, Republic of India.

The moderator of the open discussion was the first Vice Rector of the university for Academic Affairs, Durbek Amanov, who welcomed the guests, academic staff and students and declared the meeting open. In his opening remarks, Durbek Amanov expressed his gratitude to Ambassadors for not sparing time and visiting the university to exchange understanding about diplomatic service with university students.  Following this, first Vice Rector noted that lately the administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the President himself have been paying considerable attention to the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and its activities. In particular, as a result of the decision of the President the process of turning the University of World Economy and Diplomacy into a “smart university” was initiated. These actions will all serve for the increase of the university’s rating on a global level and turn it into one of the finest institutions of Uzbekistan. Furthermore, the Vice Rector informed the guests that a Diplomatic Academy under UWED has been established in accordance with the decree No. 330 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Afterwards, the floor was yielded to the Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, who talked about their diplomatic service and answered the questions of the students. In particular, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of India, H.E. Mr. Dilshod Akhadov mentioned that he was one of the first graduates of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and congratulated the university on its 30th anniversary. Mr. Akhadov asked for the support of the university in further academic projects. Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Mr. Bakhrom Ashrafkhanov talked about the disconnect between theory and practice in diplomatic service, and how he struggled due to the that at the beginning of his career. 

At the end of the discussion, several students received answers to their questions from the ambassadors. Since such discussions between generations is a tradition at UWED.
