On June 13 of this year in Tashkent Active Citizen Week began. Over three thousand participants — non-profit organizations, civil society institutions, ministries and organizations, local governments, experts, active citizens and representatives of the mass media are to gather in one area of communication during the five days of the Week.

 The goal is to discuss the prospects for the development of civil society in our country within the framework of the development strategy of the New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026.

 Within the framework of the Active Citizen Week, more than 30 events in the form of forums, conferences, round tables, discussions, television discussion, training, marathon are planned to be organized. In particular, an awarding ceremony will be held within the framework of the forum ”Innovative methods of public participation“, the ecological forum ”Green Economy and innovation – driver for sustainable development”, the project “Heroes Among Us”.

 On June 14, within the framework of the Active Citizens Week, the session on “Innovative methods of public participation in the Republic of Uzbekistan: achievements and prospects for development” has begun. The First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Sodyq Safoev opened the event with an introductory speech.

 What is the purpose of the Active Citizen Week? According to experts, along with the renewal of the political image of Uzbekistan, the worldview of both people and civil society is changing. Today, civil society institutions have great potential for improving the efficiency of reforms, implementing development programs and improving legislative acts.

 Today, the process of constitutional reforms has begun in Uzbekistan. The basis of this lies in person, his rights and legitimate interests. It is proposed to replace the principle of “State – Society – Person”, which was previously in practice, with a new principle of “Man – society – state”. In addition, it is planned to strengthen the role of civil society institutions, which reflect the principle of ”society as the initiator for reforms" as stated in our Constitution.

 Active Citizen Week serves as a constructive area of communication for the development of recommendations and proposals on the development of civil society among all participants of transformation processes within the framework of the new development strategy of Uzbekistan and in the conditions of constitutional reforms in the country.

 Active Citizen Week is being organized by the initiative of the national movement “Yuksalish”, in cooperation with the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, The National Center of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, the Ministry of Justice, the US Agency for International Development (USAID), K. Adenauer fund, the Central Asian office, the delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan and a number of partner organizations.
