On June 10 this year, UWED hosted a meeting with an American expert in the field of intercultural communication, Miss Lorel Donaghey, organized by the UWED CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION CLUB (UWED CCCC).  Introducing the guest to the assembled students, Professor of the Department of English of UWED B. Samadov noted that representatives of different countries often do not understand each other not because of the poor knowledge of a foreign language, but due to the existing difference in the cultures of communicating parties.
Miss Donaghey shared with students her rich experience of working in various countries, mentioned impressions of her work in Uzbekistan and gave valuable advice to future diplomats. She has also emphasized the importance of knowledge of the fundamentals of the country's culture for foreigners who study or work in that country. She said that positive communication among representatives of different cultures largely depends on the availability of a shared code. The interest of students in this meeting was expressed through numerous questions concerning the problems of intercultural communication.
Today, knowledge of the traditions and customs of different countries of the world remains one of the key factors of success not only for diplomats, but also for every modern person who is involved in communication with representatives of other cultures.
In the near future, the UWED CCCC plans to continue holding such meetings, as well as organizing scientific and practical student conferences with the participation of specialists having experience in the field of intercultural relations.
This meeting was held in offline and online modes.
