Today a new Department has been commenced at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) - the Department of Executive Education.

Senior officials of the Senate of Oliy Majlis, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, Strategic Development Agency, and other government ministries and agencies, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Uzbekistan, senior executives of major state- owned and private companies, national mass media, the University’s faculty and students, members of the UWED Alumni Association attended the ceremony.

In his opening address the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Rector of the UWED Sodyq Safoev emphasized that President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoev had initiated a fundamental modernization of the system of retraining senior executives of state institutions, top managers of state-owned companies, and the private sector. The Department of Executive Education at UWED has been established within this initiative in pursuit of best international standards and practices.

The goal of the newly established department is to empower senior executives from public, private and non-governmental sectors with advanced knowledge and leadership skills to support wide scale reforms taking place in Uzbekistan and to ensure sustainable growth and development.

The new department will be cooperating with leading foreign universities from the US, Europe, Japan, South Korea and Singapore in delivering short-term programs in the areas of Leadership and Strategy, Executive Development, Corporate Governance, Finance and Marketing etc. Alongside, long-term comprehensive diploma-based programs will be developed.

Within the framework of a joint pilot project of UWED with the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade and the Agency for Strategic Development of Uzbekistan, several courses will be delivered in 2022 for senior executives of regional and local governments, major state and private companies. The first one - "Attracting Foreign Investments. International Investment Law and Arbitration" starts today on May 23 and will be delivered through May 27, 2022 by Christian J. Tams, professor of Glasgow University, and Antonios Tzanakopoulos, professor of Oxford University jointly with professors of UWED.

The course will be conducted through interactive seminars and discussions with examples (case studies) from international practice and the practices of Uzbekistan.

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Uzbekistan H.E.Kim Hee-sang will share the best practices and experiences in dealing with foreign investments on the example of specific cases.
