On April, the first stage of the German Public Speaking Competition at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy was held among students studying German as a primary and a second foreign language. The main purpose of the competition was to contribute to the development of the German language in Uzbekistan, to draw students 'attention to contemporary issues of global importance and to develop students' ability to express their views on a particular issue in German. Students gave a short speech on the following topics in the competition:

  1. In 2022, Uzbekistan and Germany will celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations: what can you say about the results of cooperation? How do you think this relationship will be over the next 30 years?
  2. What distinguishes the art of diplomacy? How does diplomacy affect peaceful coexistence?
  3. What are the challenges the younger generation facing today? What solutions do you see in them?
  4. How important are social networks to you? What are their pros and cons? What do you think about the future of social networks and their impact on social life?

Last year, Sabirova Mohinur, a third-year student at the Faculty of International Relations, won an honorary first place at the university and took part in the final round at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Tashkent. This year, in addition to the competition, he was recognized as the “Best German Scholar”.

This year, 12 students took part in the competition. The winners were selected based on the following criteria:

  • knowledge of the language
  • lighting the selected topic
  • Speech art: speech structure
  • use of rhetorical means, intonation

Winners of competition:

  • 1st place: Yuldashev Mirzoxid (3rd year, IEM)
  • 2nd place: Saidov Daler (3rd year, IR)
  • 3rd place: Rakhimov Khudoyor (2nd year, IR)
