On December 17, the Hilton Hotel in Tashkent hosted an international conference on “Facilitating safe, orderly and regular migration and implementation of advance passenger information system”. This prestigious conference was organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on December 18 - International Migrants Day. It was attended by representatives of relevant international organizations, experts from government agencies of this sphere, university scientists, practitioners from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Switzerland, Kazakhstan and by other researchers on migration issues.

The phenomenon of migration is one of the most important issues in modern international relations, and its legal and cultural regulation is becoming increasingly important. According to the United Nations, there are more than 281 million international migrants in the world today, representing 3.6 percent of the world’s population. The problem of migration has become more serious, especially in today's global pandemic. As a result of the many restrictions imposed by the pandemic, migrant workers are facing severe challenges in leaving their home countries for work or returning to their home countries from foreign countries. Improving the legal framework for global migration, establishing a safe and orderly, regular, in short, civilized migration system based on strong protection of human rights and dignity, is required by the current turbulent international situation. In particular, among the issues highlighted in the conference were strengthening social protection of migrants, improving their professional and language skills, organizing vocational training for young people going abroad and the changes taking place in our country in recent years.

It is also noteworthy that as part of this scientific conference, the presentation of the World Migration Report – 2022 was held by the International Organization for Migration dedicated to the International Migrants Day.

In addition, special emphasis was placed on the introduction of a system of advance exchange of passenger information to facilitate safe and orderly migration. Experts in the field noted that the introduction of a safe and orderly migration process, the effective use of human mobility and reliable protection of the rights of migrants will increase the amount of remittances sent home.

Dean of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science Otabek Nayimov, who took part in the conference, noted that “migration is a multifaceted phenomenon”. He also stressed the importance of expanding the university’s interaction with international institutions dealing with global migration. In order to intensify scientific cooperation on labor migration, the UWED, with the support of the Tashkent office of the International Organization for Migration, agreed to organize a special roundtable for Master's and Doctoral students of the university.
