On 22 October 2021, a meeting was held at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan with Prof. Tetsuji Tanaka (Japan), Director General of the Research Institute for Central Asia and the Caucasus.

On the part of UWED, the meeting was attended by S.S. Saidkasymov – Vice-rector for international relations, A.I. Mukhitdinov– Head of the International Cooperation Department, and Kh.Sh. Gafurova – Head of the Department of Oriental Languages.

At the beginning of the conversation, prof. S.S. Saidkasymov, welcoming the guest, noted that in accordance with the main points of the "road map" adopted following the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Sh.M. Mirziyoyev to Japan in December 2019, UWED is actively working to expand scientific and educational connections between higher educational institutions of Japan.

Prof. Tanaka said that the institute, on the basis of constant study of the speeches and activities of Sh. Mirziyoyev, highly appreciates the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan in the Central Asian region, his numerous initiatives with an updated foreign policy and dynamic internal reforms, which deservedly receives, according to his words, broad support in the world community

Prof. Tanaka informed that at present he is also the Rector's Advisor at the Tokyo University of Japan and expressed his readiness to give lectures for UWED students in English and Japanese.

Various issues of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation were discussed during the meeting, as well as priority areas of interaction.

According to the results of negotiations, an agreement to organize a cycle of online lectures for UWED students in the areas of "Banking System of Japan", "Digital Economy", "Technological Achievements of Japan", "Preservation of Japan's National Identity" and others in Japanese and English in the near future, to hold joint scientific conferences and seminars with the participation of young researchers, undergraduates and doctorate students.

They also considered the practical issues of organizing cooperation between the newly organized Analytical Center for Scientific Research of Japan under UWED and the Japanese Research Institute for the Study of Central Asia and the Caucasus, the organization of seminars on the comparative analysis of Japanese society with the culture of Central Asia, and other issues.

The parties agreed to hold similar meetings of the leadership of the Research Institute for the Study of Central Asia and the Caucasus and UWED on a regular basis to promptly resolve practical issues of developing bilateral cooperation.

Prof. Tanaka was also particularly interested in the experience of Uzbekistan in overcoming the consequences of the pandemic, as well as the Afghanistan policy of President Sh.M. Mirziyoyev in the light of the latest changes in this country, and Prof. S.S. Saidkasimov gave comprehensive information on these issues.

The distinguished guest from Japan expressed his deep satisfaction with the meeting and expressed gratitude for its organization.
