On September 22, 2021, the Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Sodyk Safoyev met with the acting head of the UNESCO Representative Office in Uzbekistan Alexandros Makarigakis. On the part of the UWED, the meeting was attended by the Vice-rector for Research and Innovation G. Ismailova, the head of the UNESCO Chair "International Law and Human Rights" O. Yusupjanov and doctoral student S. Ikramov.

The rector of the University Sodyk Safoyev thanked the guest for the visit, informed about the UWED and noted the special importance of mutual cooperation between the University and the UNESCO representative office in Uzbekistan. The long-term experience of cooperation between UWED and UNESCO can be traced in the activities of the UNESCO Chair "International Law and Human Rights", founded under the auspices of UNESCO in 1998, as well as in the implementation of various joint projects and activities.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the further action plan for deepening and expanding cooperation between the University and UNESCO. Rector S. Safoyev put forward a number of proposals for new joint projects and activities within the framework of bilateral cooperation. In particular, the establishment of a research center for the study, development and modernization of the system of protection and preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage with the support of UNESCO. The parties also raised the issue of creating a center for intercultural communications and cultural dialogue under the auspices of UNESCO on the basis of UWED. Mr. A. Makarigakis warmly supported these proposals. In addition, the parties agreed to attract foreign scientists and UNESCO experts as guest lecturers to the UWED, to create a UNESCO library (resource center) on the basis of the UNESCO Chair "International Law and Human Rights", as well as to replenish the UWED library with publications of the organization. The parties emphasized the importance of cooperation between the University and UNESCO within the framework of the activities of the UNESCO Chair. In this connection, they consider issues of modernization and improvement of the department's activities, cooperation of the University with the International Bureau of Education, the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Education for Peace and Sustainable Development, as well as participation in the UNESCO UNITWIN network.

A. Makarigakis expressed his confidence in the further strengthening and development of cooperation between UWED and UNESCO, as well as the readiness of the UNESCO representative office in Tashkent to assist in the implementation of the agreed projects and activities.
