"Discourse via Interpreting" annual conference

The annual conferences of Training Center for Interpreters of UWED titled Discourse via Interpreting took place on the 15 of December 2016. According to the set tradition the conference had been attended by students and teachers of about 10 universities of Tashkent. Students’ reports presented in the course of the event touched upon various aspects and subtleties of interpreting. A number of students of TCI UWED present at this conference shared their views on the experience they gained while interpreting for the events which took place at different sites of our country. The observations made by these students aroused great interest  of the audience. The participants of the conference asked a lot of questions concerning practical experience of these students. The way the students were able to answer the questions clearly showed that they were able to internalize both practical skills and theoretical knowledge of the profession.

Rector of UWED A. Djumanov called on all the participants to study more than two foreign languages. He has pointed out the high achievements of TCI in the realm of English. He suggested  to include into TCI UWED curriculum  study of popular languages of Europe and Asia.

In his welcoming speech Director of TCI UWED prof. B. Samadov underlined the importance of conferences of this sort. He said that in spite of the need for interpreters in this country training of interpreters still remains to be a problem.

Representative of British Council Ms E. Sheykhametova highly  appreciated the work of student- interpreters functioning in the interpreting booth for this conference. Further on she familiarized the participants of the conference with the British Council’s projects on education in Uzbekistan.

Students and teachers from USWLU, NUU named after M. Ulugbek and other universities made interesting reports and comments concerning the issues discussed at this conference. According to the tradition of TCI UWED the conference had been conducted in the English language.
