The University of World Economy and Diplomacy has held a roundtable workshop on “Politics of artificial intelligence”. The guest speaker for the meeting was Mark Coeckelbergh, Professor of Philosophy of Media and Technology at the University of Vienna in Austria.

Professor Coeckelbergh is an expert in the ethics of artificial intelligence and an author of numerous books, including Growing Moral Relations (2012), Human Being @ Risk (2013), Environmental Skill (2015), Money Machines (2015), New Romantic Cyborgs (2017), Moved by Machines (2019), the textbook Introduction to Philosophy of Technology (2019), AI Ethics (2020) and The Green Leviathan (2021).

The round table was attended by the teaching staff and doctoral students, researchers of the faculty of International Relations of the UWED. The moderator of the roundtable was the head of the Department of Political Science of the UWED, Dr. Faridun Sattarov.

The workshop provided a space for reflection on issues concerning the ethics and politics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and related technologies. The participants discussed the social, cultural, environmental and political impact of AI. During the discussions, Professor Coeckelbergh raised questions about libertarianism, the fundamental differences between humans and machines and debates over the moral status of AI, global and integrational justice, expressing a view that many on our planet can be vulnerable to the various effects and implications of AI.
