A number of goals and tasks for the development of the sphere were defined at the video conference of the head of our state Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 6 May of this year on measures to improve the system of teaching foreign languages.

Speaking about this direction, the President stressed the importance of further strengthening cooperation with such foreign organizations as the British Council, the Goethe Institute, the French Alliance, KOICA, JICA, the Confucius Institute, and expanding the network of non-state training centers.

In order to improve the quality of teaching foreign languages in our country and to eliminate the problem of shortage of qualified personnel in this field, together with the UN units, at the University of world economy and diplomacy will establish the сenter for in-depth teaching of foreign languages for specialists in various fields.

To this end, at the UWED held a meeting with representatives of the embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uzbekistan, KOICA and the Korean Education Center. In it, the rector of the University Komiljon Karimov welcomed the guests and informed them that the Korean language is one of the most chosen among the second foreign languages students are studying.

At the meeting, which was attended by the first secretary of the embassy of Republic of Korea in Uzbekistan Yoomin Kang, country director of KOICA Uzbekistan office Sunjin Park, deputy director Korean Education Center in Tashkent Jang Hyeongki, was agreed to establish a new сentre for in-depth teaching of foreign languages, on the provision of specialists and the necessary literature for its activities, and on establishing cooperation not only in the field of education, but also in other areas.

During the negotiations, the Korean side expressed its readiness to organize a language center for the study of the Korean language on the territory of the UWED within 2 months, its technical and resource equipment, the necessary IT-technologies, the provision of volunteer teachers, methodological specialized literature, etc.

At the conversation, it was noted that the graduates of the new center will become specialists with a special certificate and have a deep knowledge of a foreign language, who have received knowledge in the field of economics and culture

The delegation of the Korean Embassy was shown the premises on the territory of the university, where this center could be located.

On the same day, The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Uzbekistan Olgan Bekar also visited UWED. During this meeting, the head of the Turkish diplomatic corps expressed support for this project - to create conditions for in-depth study of the Turkish language on the basis of the Center for the Study of Foreign Languages in UWED. In particular, the Ambassador noted that the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination under the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey (TIKA) will be involved for this purpose. At present, the embassy of Turkey in Uzbekistan operates a special school and various centres for teaching the Turkish language, in which more than 50 Turkish teachers are giving knowledge.

In order to ensure that the centre does not consist only of theoretical training, the Turkish ambassador also expressed his support for the establishment of the Museum of the culture of Turkey in the centre, like the Korean embassy.
