The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only international organization that regulates the rules of international trade. Currently, the number of member countries in the WTO is 164. Uzbekistan also applied for membership in 1995, but only 15 years later, changes are taking place in this area. UWED together with the Ministry of foreign affairs, the Ministry of investments and foreign trade organized a scientific and practical conference on the topic "Organizational and legal issues of Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO: state, problems and prospects". The event, which was held in the format of a webinar, was attended by representatives of different organizations, leading economists of the country and professors, as well as Director of the Department of the WTO Secretariat Mаika Oshikawa joined from Geneva.

WTO Deputy Director-General Ambassador Alan Wm Wolff in his video message for the webinar, noted: “WTO accession plays a key role in promoting trade integration and benefits enterprises and consumers in Uzbekistan. Membership in the organization is also accompanied by increased access to markets for goods and services, increased transparency, insurance against protectionism and unilateralism, and gives members, including recently joined, a voice in shaping the rules of global trade".

During the event, domestic and foreign experts based their analytical views on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO on the example of the participating countries. One of the main goals of the World Trade Organization (WTO) is to strengthen self-defense and abolish protectionism. This organization is a gateway to unlimited opportunities that can provide a convenient legal system for international trade. The adopted important documents make states responsible for the coordinated implementation of their trade policies. The goal is to help developers, exporters and importers of goods and services to successfully operate in the global market.
