The United Nations Organization (UN) is the largest international organization with about 200 member countries. Our country became a member of this prestigious international organization in the very first year of Independence - March 2, 1992. Cooperation with the organization is steadily developing in many areas, including strengthening peace and security, health, ecology, education, culture and tourism.

This year marks 29 years since the entry of the Republic of Uzbekistan into the United Nations Organization (UN), in connection with this date, the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on international affairs and inter-parliamentary relations organized a round table at the University of world economy and diplomacy.

The University of World Economy and Diplomacy hosted a round table dedicated to the 29th anniversary of the membership of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the United Nations. It was attended by First deputy speaker of the Legislative chamber of the Oliy Majlis, director of the National center for Human Rights Akmal Saidov, UN Resident coordinator and UNDP Resident representative in the Republic of Uzbekistan Helena Fraser, Deputy of the Legislative chamber of the Oliy Majlis Kadir Juraev, Deputy of the Legislative chamber of the Oliy Majlis, head of the committee international relations and inter-parliamentary relations Dilorom Fayzieva, deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, heads of UN missions and its specialized agencies in Uzbekistan and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The speakers highly appreciated the role of Uzbekistan in the international community, its diplomacy and policy in accordance with the principles of the UN. For example, the words of the President of Uzbekistan Sh.Mirziyoyev, who spoke at the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council, confirm our opinion: “Uzbekistan as a member of the Human Rights Council shall protect and actively promote the universal principles and norms of the International human rights law.”.

Looking at the participation and speech of the head of our state at the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council, one can understand the attitude of the international community towards our country. The President's speech at the prestigious rostrum once again confirmed that our country will not deviate from the path it has chosen in terms of human rights, but will resolutely defend and actively promote generally recognized principles and norms.

In particular, “The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development shall be implemented in our country in accordance with the UN principle of «Leaving no one behind» to ensure the rights and legal interests of every person” – Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

Today, Uzbekistan is a full member of the United Nations, and as a signatory to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by all 193 UN member states in September 2015, Uzbekistan has made a global commitment to strive for peace. that ensures equality, prosperity, dignity and justice for all people in a safe and healthy planet.

Today, the UN structure in Uzbekistan includes:

  • United Nations Development Program (UNDP),
  • United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA),
  • United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF),
  • World Health Organization (WHO),
  • United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO),
  • United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC),
  • UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia (UNRCCA),
  • International Labor Organization (ILO),
  • Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO),
  • International Organization for Migration (IOM)
  • United Nations Volunteers Program (UNV).

The World Bank, as an independent specialized agency of the United Nations, also makes a significant contribution to the work of the Organization in the country.

The roundtable participants discussed the main stages and priorities of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN; a statement on the initiatives of Uzbekistan in the UN and their implementation; the main tasks of the membership of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the UN Human Rights Council. The parties exchanged views on the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN Development Program and its specialized agencies.

At the end of the meeting, participants developed individual and practical action plans with each UN agency. Such events are aimed at informing young people about the priorities of our country at the international and national levels, their implementation in higher education.
