UWED students have successfully participated in the Interregional Model United Nations

UWED students took part in the work of the Interregional Model of the United Nations, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan and the UN Day. This event took place online from 26 to 28 October, 2020.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan together with the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia and the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan with the active assistance of the Department of International Cooperation of the UWED and the University Youth Union.

The Participants list included Universities with political and diplomatic specialization in the neighboring countries, in particular the Commonwealth of Independent States.

During the Youth Forum of the Interregional Model UN, students simulates the work of several bodies from the United Nations system. In particular, the UN General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

The meetings of the Main Committees of the General Assembly, the functional commissions of the Economic and Social Council, and the Human Rights Council were simulated as well.

The work of the Model of UN was attended by the teaching staff, students of 15 universities with specializations in the field of diplomacy and international relations (academies, universities and institutes), as well as acting diplomats from 13 states of Asia and Europe.

Within the framework of the plenary sessions and multilateral negotiations, young international experts engaged in debates and consultations on issues related to the promotion of the principles of neutrality, strengthening the tools of preventive diplomacy and mediation, the development of sustainable transport and international cooperation in the field of health. The participants agreed upon the contents and adopted the joint final documents after working in each committee.

The conference participants expressed their readiness to continue the dialogue within the framework of this Model UN by organizing similar events.

The UWED Forum was represented by Elbek Abdullaev (leader of the UWED Youth Union), Ilhomjon Muminov (doctoral student of UWED), as well as students of the UWED Youth Union. It is noteworthy that both presidential positions were elected among UWED students:

• President of the General Assembly – Madina Ganieva - 3^rd year student of the Faculty of International Relations;
• President of ECOSOC – Khondamir Abdumannopov – 4^th year student of the Faculty of International Economics and Management.

Our students represented the following countries in the Interregional Model UN:

• China: Khusniddinkhuja Abdurakhimov (2-course, IEM), Sadoqat Ibodova (3-course, IR), Madina Ganieva (3-course, IR), Farangiz Abdumalikova (2-course, IEM);
• Canada: Oydin Karimova (3-course, IR), Jakhongir Karimov (4-course, IEM), Jamshidbek Ibrokhimov (4-course, IL);
• United Arab Emirates: Khondamir Abdumannopov (4-course, IEM), Nazokat Narimova (2-course, IR), Umida Nurmatova (1-course, IR), Yulduzkhon Suvanova (4-course, IEM), Umida Bekmirzaeva (3-course, IL).

Participants will be awarded special certificates for participation in this event.

The UN interregional model has successfully completed its work. Two resolutions were adopted in the course of two days.
