On September 16, an international scientific and practical online conference on the topic "The impact of the pandemic on Central Asia: first lessons, coronacrisis and prospects for transformation" began its work. The conference is organized by the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) and the Office of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Uzbekistan.

The event was opened by the Chairman of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan T.K. Narbaeva, State Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Rector of UWED A.A. Abduvakhitov, Founder and Chairman of the US Institute of Central Asia and the Caucasus and the Silk Road Research Program F. Starr and UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan M. Dimovskaya.

The first day of the conference was held in four directions and united experts from leading research institutes and higher educational institutions, scientists, government officials and young researchers from the USA, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Great Britain, Israel, the Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, Spain, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Malaysia and Uzbekistan into one scientific and practical platform, who made reports on the impact of the pandemic on the prospects for domestic and foreign policy of states; the importance of international, multilateral and regional cooperation in overcoming the complications associated with the coronavirus; the role of international organizations in mitigating the consequences of emergencies, in particular the coronavirus pandemic; and socio-economic issues related to reducing the negative effects of the coronavirus. Also, the experience of Uzbekistan in the fight against the consequences of coronavirus was highly appreciated.

The event participants noted that the coronavirus pandemic had a negative impact not only on the global health care system, but also on the entire socio-economic, political, cultural complex of the life of the state and society. It was indicated that current problems in such areas as education, medicine, social protection, finance, employment of the population will lead to significant socio-economic reforms and transformations in the future.
