August 26, 2020 with the assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Japan, the UWED leadership met with representatives of the Saitama University (Japan).

Saitama University was represented by Tetsuya Yanagisawa - Vice President of the University; Jongwon Woo - Dean of the Department of Economics; Koki Hirota - Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics; and Hiroyuki Taguchi - a professor in the Department of Economics.

Opening the meeting, the moderator of the event, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Japan Fazylov G.G. noted that in accordance with the points of the "road map" adopted following the visit at the highest level in December 2019, the Embassy is working actively to expand scientific and educational ties between higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan and Japan.

To this end, the Embassy has worked out the issue of cooperation between UWED and Saitama University, whose representatives expressed interest in establishing academic exchange programs between undergraduates and doctoral students of universities of the two countries in the field of economics.

During the meeting, various issues of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation were discussed, as well as priority areas of interaction.

One of the important points of the meeting was the discussion of the issue of signing a Cooperation Agreement between UWED and Saitama University.

During the meeting, an agreement was reached on organizing online lectures in the areas of "Japanese language" and "Modern Japanese society (culture, history, literature, art)" in Japanese and English from the new academic year, holding joint scientific conferences and seminars online with the participation of young researchers, undergraduates and doctoral students of two universities, as well as the implementation of joint scientific research and the publication of their results. It was decided to pay attention to such topics as the methodology and methods of organizing the research activities of students and masters.

The practical issues of organizing cooperation between the newly organized Analytical Center for Scientific Research of Japan UWED and the Center for Sustainable Development of Central Asia at Saitama University, the organization of seminars on the comparative analysis of Japanese society with the culture of Central Asia, lecture courses on the management and economy of Japan, online meetings of UWED students were considered in detail, learning Japanese with students from Saitama and etc.

The parties agreed to hold similar meetings between the management of Saitama University and UWED on a regular basis in order to promptly resolve practical issues of developing bilateral cooperation.

For reference: Saitama University is a national university located in Saitama, the capital of the prefecture of the same name.

The university has 5 faculties (schools) for undergraduate studies: humanities, education, economics, science and engineering.
