November 14-15, 2019 Senior Lecturer, Department of International Economics, Ph.D. Sultanova G.K. and doctoral student UWED Karimova H.R. took part in the final conference of the scientific project “Strengthening and Energizing EU-Central Asia relations”, abbreviated SEnECA) on the topic “The Future of EU-Central Asia Relations” held in the capital of Belgium Brussels.

The main objectives of the SEnECA project are to strengthen and intensify relations between the EU and Central Asia by creating a sustainable interdisciplinary research network SEnECA, connecting European researchers working in Central Asia and Central Asian scientists studying the EU, who will be able to give their recommendations to all EU institutions, in particular European External Relations Service, European Commission and European Parliament.

The SEnECA project, implemented during 2018-2019, is funded by the EU Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program. Over the course of two years, within the framework of the project, several analytical materials and articles on cooperation between the EU and Central Asia in the fields of politics, economics, culture and education were published.

During the final conference, the main results of the SEnECA project were presented. The conference was attended by representatives of the University of Duisburg-Essen (Duisburg, Germany), the Institute of European Politics (Berlin, Germany), the Center for European Studies of the University of Ghent (Ghent, Belgium), the Warsaw Foundation Institute for Economic and European Studies "Wise Europa" (Warsaw, Poland) , International Center for European Education (Nice, France), the Association of Trans-European Political Studies (Brussels, Belgium), as well as a number of universities in Central Asia and other organizations.

EU Special Representative for Central Asia Peter Burian, Deputy Chairman of the Delegation of the EU-Central Asian Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (DCAS) Andris Ameriks, Uzbekistan Ambassador to Benelux Dealer Hakimov and others were invited as honored guests of the final SEnECA conference.

Within the framework of the conference, several sessions were held devoted to the issues of further strengthening cooperation between the EU and Central Asia, discussing promising areas of cooperation in the field of education, science and culture, improving transport and logistics infrastructure in Central Asia, determining export and opportunities for the EU and Central Asia in the medium term.
