November 12, 2019 UWED students participated in a discussion with a group of prominent experts led by the Director of the Eurasian Center of the Atlantic Council, former US Ambassador to Uzbekistan and Ukraine J. Herbst. Ms. April Foley, former US Ambassador to Hungary, Mr. Theodore Sedgwick, former US Ambassador to Slovakia, Ms. Christina Brown, founder of the Center for Religious Relations in Louisville, Kentucky, also attended. Board of the Institute of Healthy Air, Water and Soil.
The topic of discussion was “US Foreign Policy: The Central Asian Vector”. The moderator of the discussion was Prof. Saidkasymov S.S.
J. Herbst spoke in detail about the Eurasian Center of the Atlantic Council and the specifics of US foreign policy in the Central Asian region.
The growing role of women in diplomatic activities and gender equality in international politics was noted by Ms. E. Foley, giving instructive examples from world practice.
The need to study the experience of the developed economies of the world in implementing economic reforms in developing countries, in ensuring their sustainable economic growth and welfare of the population became the topic of the speech of Mr. Theodore Sedgwick.
Ms. Christina Brown spoke about the importance of maintaining environmental safety in the world and its impact on international relations not only regionally, but also globally.
In response to students' questions, American experts also shared their assessments and expectations about the upcoming US presidential election, while their opinions were significantly divided, reflecting the difficult political situation in this country.
The guests also answered in detail the numerous questions of students and teachers of UWED, and as a result expressed their opinion about the discussion. So, in particular, Mr. J. Herbst noted that the level of training of the students of UWED made a deep impression on American experts, and their knowledge of English and information about current world politics were simply excellent. Ms. E. Foley and C. Brown, also emotionally expressed their admiration for the activity of Uzbek students.
