Media literacy – skill selection information

Today the ability to select and correctly evaluate information in the global media space is becoming relevant. Media literacy, media education, media culture, protection against fakes and propaganda - all of these keywords reflect the essence of the international three-day media forum held in Astana. His motto was “Promoting stability and peace in the Central Asia.”
It was attended by teachers, scientists, journalists, community activists, youth leaders from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Uzbekistan was represented by six people; from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Professor Fatima Muminova and Deputy Dean Fuzail Makhmudov participated. The main lecturers of the second international educational project (Edyuton) performed their presentations on the topics “Media literacy - what it is and why we need it”, “Critical thinking is an important skill of modern man”, “Media literacy: protection against information weapons of mass destruction”, “How to tell about media and information literacy in social networks and not scare anyone”, “The art of remixing media and digital literacy” and others. Particular attention was paid to the activities of libraries, reading rooms as centers for the accumulation and processing of numerous information and centers of cultural and educational work.
At the forum's training workshops, participants demonstrated their ideas on promoting media literacy in the country and the region as a whole, expressed their thoughts on countering fakes and developing critical thinking towards antisocial, extremist and damaging sustainable development information. At the end of the second Central Asian Edyuton, individual and group developments on media literacy were heard, with an indication of their phased implementation. The best projects were approved by an expert commission, and active participants were given souvenirs and certificates. The forum included tours of Astana, acquaintance with its sights, including Nazarbayev University, the EXPO Congress Center, the Baiterak monumental building, the Khan Shatyr shopping and entertainment center, etc.
