A scientific seminar was organized on the topic “30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Central Asia and South Korea: assessment and prospects”

On February 6, 2023, the Center for Asia-Pacific Studies of the Institute for Advanced International Studies at UWED, together with the Center for Asia-Pacific Studies of Hanyang University of the Republic of Korea, organized a scientific online seminar on the topic: "30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Central Asia and South Korea": Assessment and Prospects".
The seminar discussed the stages of development of political, economic, social and humanitarian relations between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea, as well as issues related to diplomatic relations between the states of Central Asia and South Korea. The purpose of the seminar was to promote the expansion of scientific research aimed at identifying promising areas of cooperation, developing theoretical and scientific-applied proposals for the further development of mutually beneficial ties between the two countries and the Central Asian region as a whole.
In his welcoming speech, the director of APC of Hanyan University, Professor Eom Go Ho emphasized that Uzbekistan is a key partner of Korea in the Central Asian region and Seoul intends to strengthen relations comprehensively between the both countries. In return, Z. Pulatkhodzhaev, Vice-Rector of UWED, Head of the Center APC, noteced that after bringing relations to the level of a special strategic partnership in 2019, exchanges in the field of politics, trade, investment, culture have entered a new historical stage.
President of the Eurasian Policy Institute of Korea Jae Nam KO made presentations on the topic “30 years of diplomatic relations between Central Asia and South Korea”, as well as a senior researcher at KOTRA Jiwon PAK on the topic “30 years of economic relations between Central Asia and South Korea”.
The Uzbek side was represented by IPMI professors Laila Tashpulotova and Valery Khan. The seminar was also attended by experts on Korea from the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies (ISMI) under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan with their questions and suggestions.
