On October 26-28, 2020 UWED students took part in the Interregional Model of the United Nations, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan and UN Day.
The event was held in an online format and was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia, the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan with the assistance of the Department of International Cooperation of the UWED and the University Youth Union.
The participants of the event were universities with political and diplomatic specialization from neighboring countries, in particular the CIS.
Some participants of the Interregional UN Model shared their impressions and from the event:
Madina Ganieva, 3-year student of the Faculty of International Relations:
It is a great honor for me to be President of the General Assembly with the support of our university students. First of all, I would like to thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the IR-MUN Secretariat, the UNRCCA representatives, as well as the Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Turkmenistan, for carrying out such a large-scale United Nations Model. Having a fairly good experience of participating in such events, it was from this conference, where students from foreign universities were involved, that I was personally able to extract a wide amount of new information. Firstly, the each delegate shared their views on the three agendas that cover relevant issues. Secondly, the joint actions in correcting the resolutions showed the importance of the work of each participant. By collective effort, we managed to achieve an incredible result. I would also like to add that because of the UN model, we were able to find new colleagues with whom we share the same views, and had the chance to further develop our oratory skills. With the delegates, we were able to hold a productive debate and an interesting discussion. Students of our university are grateful for the opportunity to participate in this conference, and wish the organizers prosperity and further achievement of all goals!
Khusniddinkhuzha Abdurakhimov, 2-year student of the Faculty of International Economics and Management:
This event was full of interesting moments, acquaintances, and emotions. We experienced the responsibilities of a modern diplomat, thoroughly studied various issues to be ready for all circumstances during discussions in the Interregional UN Model. For this reason, we carefully prepared for the event and during these few days, we received a lot of knowledge and experience, which we will use in our subsequent studies and work.
Khondamir Abdumannapov, 4-year student of the Faculty of International Economics and Management:
It was a great honor for me to be President of the Economic and Social Council at this conference held at the interregional level. The conference left warm emotions and memories. It is gratifying that the parties and countries have come to a consensus on important issues at the interregional and international level. This conference, in my opinion, highlights the desire of countries to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations, and expresses the readiness of young people and their desire to participate in peacekeeping processes at the global level. Thanks to all the organizers and fellow delegates from different countries! I hope that we will meet again and our paths will converge!
Farangiz Abdumalikova, 2-year student of the Faculty of International Economics and Management:
It was the very first MUN in my life, very intense and interesting. What I enjoyed most was negotiating with representatives of other delegations with whom we were able to reach a consensus. I am also infinitely grateful to our coordinators, who were always there to help and answered our questions at any time.
Umida Nurmatova, 1-year student of the Faculty of International Relations:
First of all, I would like to say that I am very glad that I had a chance to participate in the Interregional Model of the UN. Until this day, I took part in the role of organizer, volunteer or mentor in other projects. This time I was given the chance to be a delegate of the United Arab Emirates. For the first time, I managed to write a position paper and speak during sessions of the Interregional Model of the UN, where delegates from other countries were also present. In addition, I want to express my gratitude to the senior students who supported us in every possible way.
