The UWED discussed the prospects for the development of a democratic society, human rights and freedoms, further improvement of the electoral system, as well as the state, problems and prospects of interstate relations between Uzbekistan and Sweden.

The delegation of the Parliament, consisting of Asa Lindestam, First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Sweden, the head of the delegation, Hannah Väteren, member of the Committee on the Environment, took part in the scientific discussion and agriculture, Magdalena Schroeder - member of the Justice Committee, deputy member of the Defense Committee, deputy member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Sven-Olof Sallstrom - member of the Defense Committee, deputy member of the Labor Market Committee, deputy member of the Finance Committee, deputy member EU Affairs Committee, member of the Swedish delegation to the OSCE, Martina Brozek, international consultant responsible for parliamentary contacts with the diplomatic corps, as well as the Swedish Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Ms. Ingrid Tersman.

The seminar was led by the vice-rector for international relations prof. S.S. Saidkasimov, who thoroughly revealed the current achievements of Sweden in the economic, social and humanitarian spheres, as well as the history, state and prospects of development of Uzbek-Swedish international relations, in the light of the profound changes in the foreign policy of the Republic of Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Sh.M. Mirziyoyeva.

The Chair of the Legislative Chamber Committee of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic on Foreign Affairs Dilorom Fayzieva, deans of the faculties M. Khamdamov, Sh. Urunbaev, F. Makhmudov, prof. Department of Social and Political Sciences E.S. Sultanova, deputy dean of the faculty of "MO" S.K. Tillakhodzhaeva, as well as doctoral students and students of UWED.

A comprehensive presentation on the topic “100 Years of Democratic Reform in Sweden” was made by Ms. A. Lindestam, who emphasized that bilateral relations between Sweden and Uzbekistan are civilizational. Our relationships are developing through interaction and interchange.

The workshop participants showed with concrete examples that cooperation between Sweden and Uzbekistan has intensified in recent years. Active foreign policy and fundamental socio-economic transformations create new opportunities for interaction, portending a new level in the bilateral relations of friendly countries.

Comments, questions and speeches prof. E. Sultanova, students Dilshodabegim Irmatova, Azizbek Kodyrzhonova and students Nigina Saidova, Maftuna Khasanova, G. Shaikhislamova, M. Ilmiddinova, O. Abdurakhmonova, M. Platova, R. Karimova gave the thematic seminar special activity and relevance.

Summing up the results of the international thematic seminar, Ms. Lindestam emphasized the high scientific level of the discussion and her satisfaction with the great interest of researchers and students in modern Sweden, the complex processes taking place in the European Union. An agreement was reached on the regular holding of similar seminars on-line with the participation of parliamentarians and scientists from Sweden.
