On April 26, 2019 UWED hosted a meeting with a group of American tourists, specially organized as part of the New-York Times - Times Journeys program.

Led by Victoria Clement, the Eurasia Regional Analyst at the Center for Advanced Operational Culture Learning at the Marine Corps University in Quantico, Virginia, this group of people included America’s renowned financial journalist Jane Bryant Quinn from Newsweek Magazine, well-known New-York lawyer Paul D. Rheingold, the professor of the University of Pittsburgh Irene Hanson Frieze as well as other experts and photographers. In the course of a meeting the UWED professors, Master’s degree students and the students of a course, specially organized for studying the basis of tourism, translation and guide held an exchange of views on Uzbekistan’s tourism attractions, culture and historical legacy. American guests noted that there is a growing interest for Silk Road countries in the West, and especially for Uzbekistan’s unique historical and touristic potential. According to them, it is important to hold special events, Public Relations campaigns in the US by disseminating booklets and brochures about Uzbekistan’s rich culture, touristic potential and cuisine in order to increase the awareness and knowledge of American public about Uzbekistan.

The meeting was held in a very engaging and informal manner with students and American guests exchanging opinions on Uzbek culture, history, nature, traditions and national cuisine of Uzbekistan. Our students also interested about American culture and universities as well as research opportunities in the United States. The group of American tourists also visited UWED library, reading room, sport complex and the university campus.
