Hokkaido university informs about the application for exchange programs, HUSTEP (Hokkaido University Short Term Exchange Program) 2022 Spring Semester Course, JLCSP (Japanese Language and Culture Studies Program) 2022 Spring Semester Course and application as special auditors (*formerly stated as SAS) and special research students.
Brief Outline of programs are as follows;
HUSTEP 2022 SPRING SEMESTER & JLCSP 2022 SPRING SEMESTER
1. Period of Enrollment:
(1 semester) April 2022 – mid-August, 2022 (5 months)
2. Application Deadline: October 29 (Japan Standard Time)
Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted.
3. How to submit application
No Nomination required. Send application documents by POST and Email before the deadline.

Important details regarding the JLCSP:
- Qualification of applicants
Those who major Japanese language and culture in the undergraduate courses of the university–wide agreement partners of Hokkaido University. (Department-wide agreement partners not eligible) First-year students are not eligible to apply.
Those who have finished introductory level and reached intermediate level of Japanese language study at the time of submission: those who passed N3 or above level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test or have equal ability with successful applicants of the test.
- How to submit application
Application materials need to be sent to Hokkaido University by email and posting.
- How the program will be managed
In light of the unceasing spread of COVID-19, it might be obliged to consider providing programs unordinary ways.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation is still unpredictable in Japan, so no HUSTEP students are allowed to enter Japan at present as the entry ban still remains in place. In addition, there is no information as to when the border will reopen. Although HUSTEP Spring 2022 will be held as scheduled, online options for courses will be provided to HUSTEP students unable to enter Japan due to border restrictions. Thus, students can participate in the program by taking courses online until the border reopens.
EXCHANGE AS SPECIAL AUDITORS OR SPECIAL RESEARCH STUDENTS
1. Period of Enrollment:
(1 semester) April 1, 2022 – September 30, 2022
(1 year) April 1, 2022 – March 31, 2023
2. Nomination Deadline: October 12, 2021
3. Application Deadline: November 12, 2021
This application requires nomination. Please find attached the nomination sheet and send it by Email. Application package will be provided based on the nomination.
